VSMPO-AVISMA has finalized a new contract with Boeing

Russia has signed a new contract with the American aircraft corporation Boeing to supply titanium components. Rostec Corporation CEO Sergey Chemezov discussed this during the defense industry exhibition IDEX, held in Abu Dhabi.

In the near future, the Russian and American companies plan to finalize a contract for the construction of a second joint plant for the processing of titanium products, according to the Rostec Corporation CEO.

Currently, VSMPO-AVISMA, which is part of Rostec Corporation, is the only enterprise in the world that carries out a full cycle of production for titanium components, including those for aircraft.

All civil aircraft made by Boeing utilize Russian titanium. VSMPO-AVISMA and Boeing began their collaborative work in 1993. Today, the Russian corporation provides up to 40% of the US company’s titanium needs. Ural Boeing Manufacturing, a joint venture to process titanium forgings, opened in Verkhnyaya Salda in 2006.

In July 2014, Boeing and VSMPO-AVISMA extended their contract for the supply of titanium for another eight years, with the new agreement lasting through 2022. The Russian company will continue to supply Boeing with rolled titanium in the annual quantities agreed upon to meet the needs of the company’s civil aircraft production.

VSMPO-AVISMA is also a major supplier of titanium for Airbus. The company additionally has partnerships with the world’s leading aircraft and engine building companies, including SNECMA, Rolls-Royce, Embraer, Bombardier Aerospace, PFW Aerospace GmbH, Pratt & Whitney, and others. The corporation’s main production sites are located in Verkhnyaya Salda (Sverdlovsk region) and in the city of Berezniki (Perm region).

VSMPO-AVISMA Corporation is the world’s largest producer of titanium ingots and all kinds of semi-finished products made from titanium alloys, in addition to large-size extruded aluminum products, semi-finished products from alloy steel, and heat-resistant, nickel-based alloys. It is part of Rostec Corporation.
