Yota Devices agrees with Vodafone on cooperation

YotaPhone 2 can be purchased with a contract through the British operator

Yota Devices, manufacturer of the YotaPhone 2 smartphone, has partnered with the world’s largest operator, Vodafone. 

In early December, Yota Devices introduced the second model of its Android smartphone with two screens in Moscow. Also, a presentation of the device was held in London, Milan, and Amsterdam. In the coming days, a similar event will be held in Dubai. There are plans in December for the YotaPhone 2 to go on sale in 20 countries in Europe, and in the first quarter of 2015 it will be available in China and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, followed by Canada and Latin America.

According to Yota Devices, the new YotaPhone 2 can be purchased with a contract or with prepaid tariff plans through Vodafone. “Our agreement with Vodafone is an important step for the YotaPhone 2 to become a successful global business. We have set an ambitious goal to make YotaPhone 2 a mass product worldwide. Our device which is supplemented by a contract from a known and reliable operator, Vodafone, will be of interest to even a greater range of users,” said CEO of Yota Devices Vladislav Martynov.

YotaPhone is a Russian-made smartphone that uses the Android platform, It’s main feature are its two screens, one of which is a standard LCD, and the second one is black and white in electronic ink. It is designed for E-ink technology and is always on. Unlike the first model, which only had touch technology built into the main screen, the second-generation smartphone has built-in fully touch-sensitive controls on both screens. This enables the second screen to answer SMS messages and emails, to read and edit documents, to open links, and to use the calculator and other functions, which until now were only available on the main screen.

Both YotaPhone 2  screens have increased in size: the diagonal LCD AMOLED-display is five inches (instead of 4.3 inches) with a resolution of Full HD 1920×1080; the second screen is 4.7 inches (instead of 4.3 inches). Instead of a dual-core machine a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 is installed. The smartphone has a 2500 mAh battery.

If use most of the time the second black-and-white screen, the battery’s lifetime without recharging increase significantly. While reading, the YotaPhone 2 can run up to five days on a single charge, and in Yota Energy mode, when all the basic functions of the smartphone are carried out on the second screen, it can run up to two days. The cost of the YotaPhone 2 in Russia is currently 32.99 thousand rubles, and in Europe is 699 euro.

The first YotaPhone went on sale in December 2013. In addition to Russia and the CIS, the smartphone is sold in Spain, Italy, Portugal, France, Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Russian company Yota Devices was established in 2011. The company’s headquarters is located in Moscow, with offices in Russia, Finland, Germany, Singapore, China and Canada. The Rostec State Corporation owns 25.1 percent of Yota Devices.
