Israel’s Elbit Systems announced Monday that it will supply directed infrared countermeasure systems for the German Air Force’s new Airbus A400 aircraft.

The planes are to be part of the air force’s self-protection program. Elbit is slated to carry out the project to equip the planes with anti-missile laser protection systems over the course of a year, for an undisclosed amount.

Elbit Systems designed the technology “to protect large military and commercial aircraft against attacks by ground to air heat seeking man-portable missiles,” according to a press release by the Israeli defense electronics company. The company stated that it has already delivered such systems to equip several types of aircraft belonging to numerous customers.
