Looking at Russia

KATHMANDU: We tend to miss small details about life and also the small creatures in our surroundings. However, a combination of those small details and small creatures in nature bring balance to our ecosystem.

And in the photograph exhibition titled ‘The Best of Russia’ at the Nepal Art Council, Babermahal, Russian photographers have captured beautiful moments of insects like snails, lady birds, among others in their natural habitat. The exhibition also features photographs of spectacular landscape as well as architecture of Russia.

The exhibition is a part of the 15-day celebration of cultural event ‘Days of Russian Culture in Nepal’ organised by the Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal.

The 50 photographs in the exhibition are a part of Russia’s annual national photo project ‘The Best of Russia’ and were taken from September 2012 to October 2013 in Russia.

In the photograph titled ‘Sunshower’, two snails are facing each other and they are on mushrooms as if talking to each other and the natural light falling on them gives an effect that the photograph is taken in a different place other than Earth.

In another photograph, ‘Celestial Lighthouse off Vladvosok’, the photographer has captured the white lighthouse under a starry night. The dark blue-black sky full of white dots like stars and white luminous lighthouse on a small rocky hill complement each other. The exhibition can make you forget all your worries and help you dive into a pleasant world of photographs.

If you want to see more of Russian landscape and nature, visit the spectacular photo exhibition that continues till November 12.
